Baltimore's freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on concrete. Water seeps into cracks, freezes, expands, and breaks the surface from within — a process called spalling. A properly installed driveway with the right mix design, air-entrainment, and curing protocol resists this damage for decades.
We don't take shortcuts. Every driveway we pour starts with thorough sub-base preparation, uses a concrete mix rated for the application, and is properly cured and sealed to deliver lasting performance in Maryland's demanding climate.
Our Driveway Installation Process
Demolition & Removal
Existing asphalt or concrete is broken up and removed, along with any sub-base material that won't provide adequate support.
Sub-Base Preparation
We compact a proper gravel sub-base to ensure uniform support and promote drainage beneath the slab — preventing settling and cracking.
Form Setting & Grading
Forms are set to the correct depth (minimum 4 inches, 6 inches for vehicle traffic areas) with proper slope for water runoff.
Concrete Pouring & Finishing
We pour and finish the concrete with the texture and finish you choose — broom finish, exposed aggregate, or smooth.
Control Joints & Curing
Control joints are cut at appropriate intervals to direct cracking, and the slab is properly cured to achieve full design strength.
FAQs
How long before I can drive on my new driveway?
We typically advise waiting 7 days before light vehicle traffic and 28 days before full vehicle loads.
Should I seal my concrete driveway?
Yes — sealing protects against freeze-thaw damage, oil stains, and surface wear. We recommend sealing after 30 days and every 2–3 years thereafter.
How thick should a concrete driveway be?
A minimum of 4 inches for passenger vehicles. We recommend 5–6 inches for driveways that will see trucks, SUVs, or heavy loads.
